and a few upgrades
Baby’s train table gets a paper roll holder…mounts were same red oak 3/4″ ply…dowel was a 3/4 inch dowel from Home Depot, both stained, sanded and finished…only to be destroyed at the last moment when the clamps failed while I was drilling through them…
I also installed 3 new thermostats to replace our old Honeywells…2 Nests and a Lux programmable thermostat. If the Nests work out, I’ll replace the Lux somewhere down the line…but for $30 you can’t go wrong.
- Nest on the left, Lux on the right
- First upgrade to baby’s train table!
Workshop additions
Been busy down in the workshop
- New router table with an Incra Fence
- Box frame/storage cabinet for the band saw
- 8′ of storage courtesy of 2x4Basics
- Finally added decent shop lighting
- Both of the far walls are coming down
- Original workbench
- ahhh finally a light switch and plugs where I need them
The opening salvo
There’s yardwork, and there’s landscaping, then there’s what I have…
A big fat pile o wood that I deal with somehow…Armed with a $25 splitting axe and a diamond tipped splitting wedge from HD (oh and yeah a Husq chainsaw), I’ve been slowly whittling down the pile of debris into something a little more manageable. Being the neat freak I can be sometimes, I had to go and pile all the wood into something a little less cumbersome than a pile.
Remaining photos are the paths I’ve been cutting into the brush to retake some of this lawn back into useable space.
- My beautiful wood pile
- What’s left of the blow downs
- Starting another
- Cutting a swath
- Stream bed
- Drying debris for the burn pile
Drawing the battle lines
Gearing up to get started with clearing. First step is mark the property lines so we know how far back to clear.

This is my first attempt at documenting a tie so my tying station and photography setup wasn’t ideal…The 5 that I made prior to this version came out much nicer so don’t get put off by the quality of the finished product.

Here are the procedures and measurements.
